Welcome to Migrant Connections Taranaki!

Introduction

Migrant Connections Taranaki (MCT) in New Plymouth is a point of contact for migrants, cross-cultural families and international students who come to live in New Zealand and choose to make Taranaki their home.  We are a Community based initiative aimed at a broader migrant focus which includes skilled and non–skilled migrants and families. MCT will assist you to get accustomed to the shift in culture, overcoming challenges in a new country and integrating into the local community, by providing ongoing support on a case-by-case basis with the skills, tools and networks you require to do so.

We run regular orientation programmes, information seminars and workshops for migrants and families to our region regarding the tax system, health, job-winning in NZ, Legal system, Working in Multicultural Environment etc. and many more.

Communications by Electronic Means or Mail

We network with local mainstream providers, government agencies, not-for-profit organisations, companies and individuals with details of upcoming workshops and events by email, telephone, flyers and Facebook.

Access to Translation / Interpreting Services

There are professionally trained Translators and interpreters (Transnational Translation/Interpreting) registered with services in New Plymouth and other areas that can be accessed through us.

A Link to Cultural Groups

MCT's Co-ordinator can put you in touch with other migrants and people who successfully settled here who speak the same language, or who are from the same country.  Community and support groups are also available for people to the social network.  MCT works with The Migrant women's and Newcomers network at Puke Ariki Library which is also a good organisation for you and your family to mingle with people from different cultures.
